Unmissable coves in the south of Mallorca

We have to point out that these are some of our favourite coves and beaches in the south of Mallorca, but feel free to explore the whole island and discover other secrets of this Balearic island. One of the most attractive points of Mallorca is that it’s not hard to set off on an adventure and explore the whole island. You can discover each of its magical corners, among which are the beaches of the south of Mallorca.

Cala Santanyí

Santanyí is one of the must-visit villages on your next trip to Mallorca: the cuisine, bohemian atmosphere, and tranquillity are certainly enough reasons to do so. Nearby, you’ll find Cala Santanyí, a spectacular natural spot about 130 metres long. It’s where travellers seek a bit of the Mediterranean to cool off, snorkel, or simply disconnect from the modern world.

This cove has parking just a few metres away, which is a major plus as you won’t have to hike to reach paradise: one of the best beaches in the south of Mallorca. From this cove, you can see Es Pontàs, the famous bridge-shaped rock that is a perfect spot for climbing. Unlike other coves, this one has some services that make the experience even better.

Cala Pi

Another of our favourites and one of the best coves in the south of Mallorca is Cala Llombards. It’s another spot with golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and a holiday vibe you won’t find in many other places. The area is peaceful, although it can get quite busy during the summer months.

At 150 metres wide, there’s plenty of space to accommodate visitors and offer a unique experience. Here, you can also enjoy snorkelling, jumping into the water from the rocks, or simply relaxing.

This cove also has nearby parking, making access to the cove hassle-free.

Cala Llombards

Its green cliffs form a natural barrier and make you feel as if you’re in a private area, far from the eyes of the world. The beach is small (50 metres wide), but its waters are a sight to behold. It’s undoubtedly one of the best beaches in the south of Mallorca. Bring your snorkelling gear, as the seabed here is another unique visual treat, and the calm waters make this activity all the more enjoyable. It’s a perfect cove for those seeking Mallorca’s most typical natural charms.

Cala Mondragó

Cala-Mondrago

This cove in the south of Mallorca is located in the heart of a Natural Park, so you know nature will be present in all its glory. Its 75 metres of sand and rocks provide the perfect setting to enjoy the sun, sea breeze, and tranquillity that this area offers. If you prefer a sun lounger, you can rent one, as well as a pedal boat to “sail” through the transparent waters of Cala Mondragó, which, by the way, are fantastic for snorkelling or just swimming. Access is easy as this cove has parking very close by.

Cala des Moro

calo-del-moro

This is perhaps the most famous cove in the south of Mallorca. Although it’s often crowded, you can get a spot if you arrive very early (or travel outside of peak season). All the attention this cove gets is well-deserved: it’s a small piece of paradise, offering a landscape worthy of capturing in photos and memories. It’s very small, about 40 metres long and even narrower, so it’s not ideal if you’re looking for a quiet space to sunbathe. We recommend visiting anyway because the views are truly remarkable.

Cala S’Almunia

Right next to Cala des Moro is Cala S’Almunia, another of the most spectacular coves in the south of Mallorca and on the whole island. It’s also very small but charming. Here you’ll find several fishermen’s huts, with ramps used to lower the boats, and this is where you can lie down. It’s also a fantastic option for snorkelling, as are all the coves on this island. We do have to mention that this cove is not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Tips for visiting the coves in the south of Mallorca

We know you’re eager to get to Mallorca to visit some of the most spectacular coves in the world, but first, we’d like to give you some tips that might be very useful. To make the most of Mallorca’s coves, it’s essential to arrive early, preferably first thing in the morning. Otherwise, you’ll be met with large crowds, making it much more difficult to enjoy your favourite cove. It’s also important, in some cases, to come prepared with suitable footwear for walking on the rocks, which can be slippery and even hurt your feet.

Our last tip is also a request: help take care of the environment. Don’t litter, don’t light fires, and try to leave each place as you found it, or better, if possible.
